SOL offers students something not available in their own school or country – complete immersion in language and culture. SOL is not a language school in the traditional sense. We offer no study courses and no SOL programme is longer than ten days, unless specially requested. What we offer is far more effective for students learning English in their own country. We develop confidence in USING the English language and, of course, improved confidence means better motivation and accelerated progress.
Our work is also to provide direct support to teachers of English in CE Europe in several ways.
We run in-service training courses for teachers of English including free places
We offer chances to observe a student course in Devon with short seminars with staff
We run annual one-week training courses on locations close to the Danube
Our trainers run workshops in schools and other centres abroad
We are supporting the setting up of links between teachers in schools in different countries to provide live communication in English between different groups of students
Also we want teachers who bring students to SOL courses to have a professional experience themselves and not just be supervisors – all teachers are welcome in all lessons.
